If you’re looking for Donald Trump’s most lucrative payout ever, forget real estate deals or corporate takeovers. The former president says his mugshot paid out the really big bucks. Here’s the full story of his campaign finance disclosure.
Rich Get Richer

The rich keep getting richer, the old saying goes. And in the case of Donald Trump, that seems to be playing out for real.
A Clear Financial Frontrunner

According to CNN, campaign finance reports from Republican candidates show that Trump lapped the field during the third quarter.
Lapping the Field

In particular, Trump pulled in more than $24 million the past three months. That’s more than double what runner-up Ron DeSantis was able to clear.
He Got a Raise

And it’s even a big boost over the $17 million or so that Trump’s own campaign collected during the second quarter.
An Easy Answer

To hear Trump tell it, there’s no real secret where the extra cash came from.
Georgia Was Good to Him

“I did the mugshot in Atlanta,” Trump told a group of Florida supporters by way of explanation.
He was of course referencing the infamous shot of him at a Georgia jail after he was booked for interfering with an election.
Mugshot Pays Big Dividends

“I don’t think I’ve ever made so much money in my life, that mugshot,” Trump went on.
Branding at Its Best

That might be an exaggeration, but Trump and his campaign did find a way to profit from his brief incarceration.
They took that mugshot and slapped it on coffee mugs, t-shirts, and whatever else they thought supporters might buy.
An Easy Sale

And, of course, Trump supporters always buy whatever he’s selling, so he banked some coin from the mugshot.
Not Enough to Go Around

While Trump was raking in the dough and generally laughing at his detractors, many of his Republican challengers spent the third quarter scuffling with their finances.
DeSantis’ Campaign Layoffs

Desantis’ campaign raised about $11 million and spent well over a million, but he also reduced headcount among his staffers from 90 to 60.
The Cash Was Flowing

South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, meanwhile, spent huge buckets of money he brought over from his Senate campaign.
He also pulled in more than $4 million.
The Pence of Despair

On the have-not end of the candidate scale, former vice president Mike Pence continues to scrap for support of both the moral and financial varieties.
A Pile of Debt

The campaign finance reports show that, despite reducing spending to less than $1000 in the first half of October, Pence’s campaign is more than half a million dollars in debt.
Pouring Gas on the Fire

With Trump pouring more and more money into his campaign, and with an already huge lead in the polls, the ledgers tell a rough story for other Republicans in the race.
A Bad Investment

And, as they slide further behind Trump, it’ll get tougher and tougher for them to convince donors to spend their hard-earned cash on a losing proposition.
Trump Has Trouble Ahead

In the meantime, Trump still has an avalanche of lawsuits pending or underway, with additional criminal charges in the offing, too.
Earnings Forecast Looking Up

If his Georgia mugshot is any indication, Trump and his entourage will find a way to turn a profit from each and everyone of his legal encounters.
Considering how many there are, there may be no hope at all for any other Republican.
