With a simple gray background, the TikTok video only shows the corner of a person’s head with text that reads: “If your co-worker ever calls in sick for work, you can do the same 1-3 days later.”

“Your boss will think you have the same thing and it’s “going around the office”. Your boss may even do the same after you, it’s called the ‘fake flu’.”

People couldn’t get enough of this hilarious but unethical life hack.

One commenter said, “I DID THIS AND MY BOSS CALLED IN RIGHT AFTER ME AND SAID HE GOT WHAT I HAD BUT I WAS FAKING IT.”

“My husband called in sick one time and died laughing at how it spread thru the office,” someone added.

“I snuffled and my coworker asked me if I was sick… she called out the next day saying she got the flu from me,” another user recalled.

The Skepticism From Other Users

Many users pointed out this strategy doesn’t work for everyone, like people who work from home.  It seems like lots of people have also been caught using this ‘fake flu’ method.

One user cautioned, “Careful, ex-coworker tried this when I was off sick. Them: ‘I think it’s the same thing she had’…my manager: ‘dead grandparents are contagious?”

“I have had a few people do this when I was off sick, like I didn’t know my chronic illness was contagious,” another wrote.
