He’d Never Had to Evict Anyone Until Yesterday!
Basil had been working the front desk at the hotel for a few months now, and although he had dealt with his fair share of difficult guests, he had never had to evict anyone before.
It Was Memorable for Sure
That was until last night when he had to say goodbye to his first-ever guest, who caused quite a commotion in the hotel.
The hotel had its fair share of odd guests, but none were as memorable as this.
A Normal Slow and Boring Day Soon Livened Up
It had been a slow day. Basil was looking forward to going home in 15 minutes when he received a panicked call from a guest.
The man on the other end of the line was slurring his words and sounded like he had had a few too many drinks.
A Maintenance Issue
He explained that his toilet was overflowing and water was getting all over the floor.
Basil knew he had to act quickly, so he promised to send the maintenance guy right away.
Not Everything Was as It Seemed
A few minutes later, the maintenance guy came down and told Basil that the toilet was broken – and not just a little bit.
Something or someone had smashed the porcelain, and there were big chunks missing!
What Could Have Happened?
The guest had only said that it was overflowing, and even with the visual evidence of the broken toilet, he never acknowledged it!
Basil was surprised to see that the guest was still there, as he had expected him to have left the room by now.
He was also clearly drunk and not making much sense.
He Got the Police Involved
Basil took a picture of the damage and simply told the guest that they would be in touch.
This was a local guest who had checked in with one of Basil’s coworkers, and there was no phone number or vehicle on file.
Basil knew he couldn’t move the guest to a new room, as he might destroy more of their property. He called the police for assistance in evicting the guest.
Lucky Timing
The police arrived 15 minutes later, and just as Basil was giving them a room key, to his surprise, the guest came out of the elevator!
Complete Denial, but They Knew He Was Lying
Basil explained the situation to the guest, and he claimed that he had not broken the toilet at all.
The police had already seen the damage to the toilet and told the guest that they knew he was lying.
“It Was Smashed Into Pieces When I Got Here”
The guest insisted that the toilet was already like that when he checked in, but Basil knew that wasn’t true.
The cops escorted the guest upstairs to collect his things, and Basil was just happy that he was cooperating.
The Culprit? Alcohol!
Once the police and the guest had left, Basil sent his coworker up to the room to turn off the water on the toilet.
The coworker came back down and told Basil that there were at least 20-30 empty beer cans in the room, and the guest had only checked in yesterday.
A Logical Assumption
Basil could think of only two possibilities: either the toilet had spontaneously combusted, or the guest had gotten incredibly drunk and broken it.
That Was a Night to Remember!
Basil couldn’t believe what he had just experienced. He had always heard stories about guests destroying hotel rooms but never thought he would have to deal with it himself.
As he walked out of the hotel and into the night, he couldn’t help but chuckle to himself at the absurdity of it all.
All in a Day of the Life of a Hotel Worker
He knew that he had a great story to tell his coworkers and friends, and he couldn’t wait to see their reactions.
For Basil, this was just another day on the job, and he was ready for whatever came next!
He Remained Calm and Collected Throughout
Basil’s wild night at the front desk taught him a valuable lesson. No matter how strange or unexpected the situation, it’s always best to remain calm and collected while handling guests.
