It’s a Big Day
OP is a 17-year-old high school senior who has begun planning a trip with her family to celebrate her graduation next year.
She Got to Choose
Since it’s her big occasion, OP’s family agreed to let OP pick the destination.
It Was Family Only
OP chose Japan, and she made it clear that she only wanted family members to travel along with her.

Everyone agreed, and OP was looking forward to the trip with her brother, her father, and her 49-year-old mother.

But soon after heading back to school in the fall, OP was talking about the trip again with her mom.

The two women had known each other for years but grew especially close during the Covid quarantine.

Now, OP’s mom spends 2-3 nights per week at her friend’s house.
It’s like they’re a couple of teenagers having slumber parties.

The two women have even gone on elaborate vacations together, all over the world.
And it’s just the two of them, without OP, her brother, or her father.
She Was Panicked
So when OP heard that her mom planned to bring the friend along on their trip to Japan, she was hurt and panicked.

Not only did OP’s mom spend all that time with her friend, she always catered to the other woman whenever the two of them were together.

Suddenly, OP could see that the big trip meant to celebrate her graduation was about to become nothing but another “girls trip” for the two older women.
