This man has a girlfriend who is an incredibly picky eater and who has a weird eating habit. His girlfriend eats like she is 10 years old, and he has had enough!
The Long List of What She Refuses to Eat
OP says his girlfriend, Heather, refuses to eat pretty much everything, including unflavored water, fish (excluding fried shrimp), anything with bones, cheese other than sharp cheddar, spinach, onions, garlic, pasta without red sauce, eggs, spicy food, aioli, ketchup, potatoes (other than french fries), pastries with fruit, citrus, sausage or any “non-American” food.
He Can Eat Anything
In contrast, he has a much more adventurous palate, having grown up in multiple regions of the US and lived abroad for a few years.
Opposites Attract
Despite the stark difference in their food preferences, OP and Heather still enjoy dining out together.
Whenever they go somewhere nice, their girlfriend usually orders the same meals, typically a burger or chicken tenders and fries.
She’s Ordering Fries Everywhere They Go
Even when they visit an authentic Nepalese restaurant, she will order french fries and white rice.
He finds this embarrassing, particularly when they are dining at a restaurant with a dress code, and Heather orders such simple, mundane foods.
He’s Feeling Like He’s Wasting Money
Since OP usually pays for the meals, he feels frustrated that he is paying a premium for food that they could easily get from the freezer section at Walmart for a fraction of the cost.
She Wants to Eat Children’s Food at Fancy Restaurants
Recently, a new, high-end dinner place opened in their area, which Heather eagerly anticipated.
When OP looked at the menu and saw the prices, he realized Heather would likely order the same chicken tenders as always.
Why Can’t They Just Eat That at Home?
Frustrated, he questioned the point of going out to eat if they were just going to order food that they could easily make at home.
The Confrontation
When Heather asked why he had an attitude, OP explained that he felt it was a waste of time and money to go to a nice restaurant, only to order food intended for children.
An Argument Erupted
Heather interpreted this as OP calling her a little kid, which caused an argument between the two.
He said if she’s going to order the food they can easily make at home, there’s no point in going out.
Is He in the Wrong?
Now he wonders if he was wrong for commenting on her meal preferences.
Maybe She Should Pay for the Restaurant?
It seemed like Redditors overwhelmingly sided with OP here. PilotEnvironmental46 wrote, “I don’t see the point in taking her to an expensive restaurant with a very specific type of cuisine, and her getting fries or chicken fingers. Why is she dying to go there anyway?”
Another offered a solution, “Why can’t she pay this time? If she wants to go to the restaurant, she can pay for the meal and order whatever she wants.”
What do you think? Should she just pay for the expensive food if she wants to go so bad, or was he right to say something?
