A young Asian woman riled up Redditors when she shouted down some tourists who gave her a hard time. Maybe she thought they were hangry, but something else entirely was going on. Here is the full story.
She Wanted Some Scratch
OP is a 16-year-old girl who decided to spend her free time before school started making some money.
She Had a Sidekick
So OP teamed up with a friend, and they both got part-time jobs handing out flyers on a busy street.
They Needed Her Help
One day while OP was working, a family of tourists approached her.
They wanted directions to the nearest subway.
She Knew Just What They Needed
Since OP was familiar with the area, she thought about it for a second, then directed the family which way to go.
They Were back
OP didn’t think any more about the encounter until about half an hour later when the family showed up in front of her again.
And They Were Mad at Her
Only this time, everyone in the family looked frazzled and angry.
One of the group yelled at OP for giving them the wrong directions.
She Had Proof
OP was confused and pulled out her phone to show the group a Google map of the local area.
Right there where she had sent them was a Subway restaurant.
They Said She Was Stupid
That’s when the encounter turned very rude, with one of the family members telling OP she was stupid.
They wanted to use the subway to get somewhere, not find a place to eat a sandwich.
She Made Them Late
And since OP had led them on a wild goose chase, now they were late for where they were trying to go.
No One Called It That
OP apologized for the misunderstanding but explained that no one from her area called the train a subway.
That term was only used for the sandwich shop.
He Had Some Advice for Her
That answer just honked off the group more, and one of them told OP she needed to learn better English.
Dude Was a Racist
It was a racist remark as far as OP was concerned, because her Asian heritage is obvious by the way she looks.
But English is her first language.
She Gave Them Options
OP tried to stay calm, though, and suggested that the family could go talk to the nearby tourist center if they needed better directions.
Even His Insults Were Wrong
The man who had been arguing with OP shook his head.
He muttered something about “China people” and walked away, the rest of the family following behind him.
She Was Done
That was the last straw for OP who isn’t even Chinese.
She Told Them to Go Back Home
As the family walked away, OP called after them and told them to go back to their own country.
She also called them a very derogatory name.
She Has Regrets
Now, OP feels sort of bad for losing her cool and especially for breaking out the vile language.
It Wasn’t Even Her Job
But OP also thinks the tourists weren’t treating her fairly, especially since it wasn’t even her job to give directions.

But some say she stooped way too low by calling the family a vulgar name.
