According to school rules, OP’s little girl had to stay home until she received eyedrops for 24 hours and had no visible symptoms.
They Had to Adjust
That meant that the girl would be off school for at least one day and maybe two, so OP and her husband had to make adjustments to their schedules.
One of Them Had to Do It
Both parents work full time, making it challenging for either to stay at home.
It’s even harder for OP.

That’s because OP works in healthcare and often has a full slate of patients who schedule their appointments well in advance.

If OP has to stay at home on the spur of the moment, every one of her patients has to reschedule. Not only is that a mess and inconvenient, OP also risks losing future business to other providers.

OP’s husband, meanwhile, delivers supplies for contractors and others working in construction. He also has deliveries scheduled most days, but there usually are other drivers who can cover for him.
But He Loses Money
So it’s less inconvenient for OP’s husband to stay home, but he’s also paid hourly. That means he misses out on pay any time he’s not working.

Since OP is salaried, she continues to get her money even when she has to take a day off.

OP also had sick days remaining in her yearly allotment, while her husband would have to use a vacation day to stay home with their daughter.
