This sad tale comes to us from Reddit, where a woman has had to secretly move out of her house after her ex-best friend became the worst roommate you could imagine.
A Terrible Tale
Our storyteller, Cynthia, is a strong, independent woman.
She had always prided herself on being kind and compassionate towards others, always willing to lend a helping hand whenever someone was in need.
So when her former best friend, whom we’ll refer to as Rose, came to her in a time of need, Cynthia didn’t hesitate to take her in.
They Were Close
At first, things were fine. Cynthia and Rose got along well. They were colleagues, first, but became best friends out of work.
Cynthia was happy to provide a safe and comfortable home for Rose and her daughter.
But as time went on, things began to change. Rose started to show a different side of herself, one that SC had never seen before.
Things Quickly Changed
Rose began to resent Cynthia’s drive and ambition, which she saw as a threat to her own insecurities and lack of motivation.
She even went so far as to ask Cynthia to help her ride her coattails to success, something that Cynthia immediately shut down.
This caused a rift between the two of them, and Rose’s behavior only got worse from there.
She Was the Worst Housemate
Despite Cynthia’s objections, Rose brought her ex-boyfriend to live with them – a man Cynthia despised.
To make matters worse, Rose also allowed a man who had scammed Cynthia to stay in their home without even consulting Cynthia beforehand!
These actions hurt Cynthia deeply, both emotionally and mentally, and caused her to become increasingly guarded and defensive.
The Situation Didn’t Get Any Better
The situation reached a boiling point when Cynthia contracted COVID-19.
Rose took this as an opportunity to bring in whoever she wanted without any regard for Cynthia’s health or safety.
This was the final straw for Cynthia, who realized that she needed to make a change.
She Knew What She Had to Do
She had a lot on her plate already, with post-graduate studies, running her own startup, and dealing with various business and legal issues on behalf of her family.
She didn’t need the added stress of dealing with Rose’s toxic behavior and disrespect.
She Took What Was Hers
So Cynthia made the difficult decision to secretly move out, taking all of her belongings with her. But she didn’t stop there.
She also took all of the furniture, bedding, and even the plants that she had purchased for the apartment.
This was all her property, and she had receipts to prove it.
It Was a Difficult Decision
As she sat in the now-empty apartment, waiting for the movers to arrive, she couldn’t help but feel a sense of liberation.
She had finally rid herself of the toxic energy that had been weighing her down for so long.
But as she sat there, she couldn’t help but think about everything that had led up to this point.
This Is Reprehensible!
One of the most painful memories that came to mind was the time that Rose and her daughter tampered with Cynthia’s hair products.
There was no other explanation for why her conditioner smelled like hair remover, and her hair had suffered as a result.
This was a cruel and vindictive act and one that Cynthia could never forgive.
They Were Rude, and Bad Housemates
And then there was the constant disrespect that Rose and her daughter showed toward Cynthia.
Despite Cynthia being the lessee of the apartment, Rose and her daughter had taken over as if they owned the place.
They ate Cynthia’s food without asking, were constantly in her personal space, and even tried to break into her bedroom on more than one occasion!
They Were Taking Advantage of Her
Cynthia had tried to be understanding and compassionate towards Rose, but Rose had taken advantage of her one too many times.
Cynthia had reached her breaking point, and she knew that the only way to truly move on was to cut ties completely.
Finally She Was Free
As the movers arrived and began loading everything into the truck, Cynthia felt a sense of finality wash over her.
She knew that she would never look back and that she would never allow anyone to treat her with such disrespect again.
It was a hard lesson to learn, but one that she knew was necessary for her own well-being.
But Her Outlook Is Different
She’s left her roommate with nothing, because she doesn’t deserve anything.
She’s disgusted, and her usual disposition to help people has sadly changed.
After all the pain and worry SC experienced, she’s found some relief by imagining her roommate’s face when she returns home to find her comforts are gone.
She’s Been Changed by Their Dishonesty
It’s not fair, but Cynthia is guarded and no longer willing to help those who take advantage of her kindness.
She’s liberated herself from the toxic situation, and while people might think it petty, she’s satisfied now that she has taken back what was rightfully hers.
Onwards and Upwards
In the end, Cynthia is moving forward with her life, focusing on her goals and ambitions. She may have lost a roommate, but she’s regained her freedom and peace of mind.
No longer will she allow anyone to take advantage of her trust and kindness. Hopefully, the stars align, and she never has to encounter her horrible ex-best friend ever again.
