OP is a 32-year-old woman who is married to a 32-year-old man.
The couple have an 8-month-old daughter.
She Has to Work
Up until recently, OP stayed home with her baby, but now she has to go back to work full time.
They Need Help
And, since OP’s husband is a Ph.D. student, the couple is completely strapped for time.
They need all the help they can get.
She’s the Answer
Fortunately for them, OP and her husband have a live-in housekeeper who helps with most of the household chores.
She has her own living area on one side of their house, and they pay her well.
But They Needed More
When OP and her husband were deciding what to do with their daughter when OP went back to work, their first choice was his mother.
She Wanted Extra
The older lady agreed that she could watch OP’s daughter every day, but she also wanted the housekeeper to come along.
With the little girl around, the older lady thought she’d need the extra help.
She Didn’t Trust Grandma
OP didn’t like that idea at all because she had seen people take advantage of housekeepers in the past.
She didn’t trust her mother-in-law to treat the other lady right.
They Had Other Options
So instead, OP enrolled her daughter in the daycare next to her workplace.

And for another, the housekeeper would only work at OP’s in-law’s place for part of each weekday, and never on weekends.
No Heavy Duty Cleaning
And, finally, the housekeeper was only to help OP’s mother-in-law with basic household chores that the baby might impact. Things like light sweeping and cleaning up after meals, but never anything personal.
They All Agreed
Everyone agreed to OP’s terms, and the mother-in-law started watching her granddaughter as planned.
The Work Never Stopped
But after just a few days, OP’s mother-in-law texted her and said that she had sent some clothes home with the housekeeper for her to iron.
She Handed Out Homework
OP’s mother-in-law called this “homework” for the housekeeper, to be completed by the next day.
She Spilled the Beans
OP was furious, and she only got angrier when her housekeeper told her that the mother-in-law had asked her to do some deep, spring-cleaning type housework that week, too.
He Didn’t Back Her Up
OP confronted her husband about the situation and told him he needed to straighten his mother out.
But he was angry that his wife wanted to cause more work for his mother.
