OP is a 47-year-old woman who has been married to her 65-year-old husband for 10 years. He recently retired from his job.
They Were Making Plans
After the retirement party, OP and her husband were discussing what came next, and the subject of his will and inheritance came up.
He Was Giving Their House Away
During that conversation, OP was shocked to find out that her husband was leaving their house to his 30-year-old daughter.
She Would Be Homeless
OP told her husband she didn’t think it was fair that she should be homeless after he died. She always figured she would have to live out her days without him, but she at least thought she’d have their house.
It Wasn’t Even His
But OP’s husband reminded her that his late wife had inherited the house from her parents. He inherited it from her.
She’d Been Through Enough
There was no way OP’s husband was going to give the house to her instead of his daughter, who lost her mother at a young age.
She Ran Out of Time
OP’s husband went on to explain that his first wife would have left the house to their daughter herself, but she died unexpectedly before she drew up a will. Inheritance laws left it in his lap.
