OP is a white woman in her early 30s who is married to a man of mixed race.
They have a 2-year-old child together.
Mom Is a Big Problem
For the last 5 years, OP has had no contact with her family at all.
That’s mostly due to her mother, who is controlling and narcissistic.
She’s a Racist
OP’s mom is racist, too, and never approved of her future son-in-law.
She Destroyed the Family
And most of the extended family stopped talking to OP’s family shortly before she was born.
She blames her mom for that, too.
She’s Happy Without Mom
So, it’s just been OP, her husband, and their child making their way in the world, and OP is down with that.
They Were Friendly With Each Other
The one exception to all that was one of OP’s aunts on her father’s side.
The two women made a point to catch up every now and then, even during the tough years.

Recently, OP’s aunt contacted her to let her know that her father had been in an accident.
