Right-wing commentators often point to his minor speech impediment as evidence in favor of this dementia, seizing on even the most minor misstatements.
Claiming He Ended Cancer?
On Tuesday, July 25, Biden responded to a question about his vision for achieving major accomplishments.
He stated, ““One of the things I’m always asked is: You know, why, why Americans have sort of lost faith for a while on being, being able to do big things.”
“’If you could do anything at all, Joe, what would you do?’ I said, ‘I’d cure cancer.’ And they looked at me like, ‘Why cancer?’ Because no one thinks we can. That’s why. And we can. We can end cancer as we know it.”
Seizing on a Mumble
The President mumbled through a few of his words, and social media users immediately seized on the minor misstep, dishonestly editing the video to cut out the context around the President’s remarks and making it appear as though he had said his administration had “cured cancer.”
One Instagram user, whose post was particularly popular, quipped, “The dementia is so bad that Joe Biden thinks he cured cancer.”
The Whole Truth
Critics and right-wing commentators constantly claim that President Biden has dementia or is experiencing cognitive decline, but the President has not been diagnosed with dementia.
The President has been tested for age-related cognitive decline as part of his routine health checkups and has shown no sign of any decline in mental ability.
Critics who claim that the President suffers from dementia consistently fail to offer any substantial evidence to support their assertion.
