In the run-up to former President Donald Trump’s anticipated rally at an auto parts supplier in Michigan, United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain unleashed a scathing critique of Trump’s record with automotive unions, as he targeted the rally location at a nonunion company, Drake Enterprises.
Union President Calls It ‘Pathetic Irony’
Fain didn’t hold back, denouncing the rally choice, calling it “Pathetic irony” that Trump is holding a union rally at a “Nonunion business.”
Fain Invites Biden to Rally
After Trump decided to hold his rally in Michigan, Fain invited Biden to picket with them at the workers’ strike in a “historic moment.”
No Chance of a Meeting with Trump
When asked about the possibility of meeting with Trump during his trip, Fain stood firm, stating he saw “no point” in doing so.
Trump Not One Of Us
Fain expressed doubt regarding Trump’s genuine concern for workers and the working class, “I don’t think the man has any bit of care about what our workers stand for, what the working class stands for. He serves a billionaire class, and that’s what’s wrong with this country.”
Trump’s Camp Fires Back
In response to Fain’s comments, a Trump spokesman dismissed the criticisms by taking aim at the “political leadership of some of the labor unions and the working middle-class employees that they purport to represent.”
It’s Biden’s Fault Not Ours
The spokesman affirmed Trump’s commitment to protecting American jobs, “He [Trump] has always been on the side of American workers and will do everything in his power to be their voice as Crooked Joe Biden is on the side of our foreign adversaries.”
Trump’s Aims to Rally Support for American Workers Backfires
Trump’s team admitted the rally’s focus was to engage with union workers and safeguard American jobs, but Fain’s public disapproval of the rally has foiled Trump’s plans.
Trump Accuses Biden of Copying Him With Rally
Both Biden and Trump made strategic appearances in Michigan coinciding with a UAW strike against major automakers. Trump claimed, “Crooked Joe Biden had no intention of going to visit the United Autoworkers until I announced that I would be heading to Michigan to be with them and help them out,” he said.
Trump’s Attack on Biden’s Electric Cars
Trump took to Truth Social to accuse Biden of selling auto-workers “down the river” by pushing an “electric car hoax.”

Trump urged the UAW to endorse him due to the large swinging effects the state can have on the election, arguing that auto-workers are “toast” if they don’t.
Union Takes a Cautious Approach
The UAW, represented by Fain, withheld endorsement for the 2024 presidential election, “Our focus right now is 100% on getting a great agreement for our members,” Fain said.
Electric Vehicles Give UAW Doubts
The union cited concerns related to the auto industry’s transition to electric vehicles (EVs) as a primary reason for their cautious approach, “Endorsements and things like that, we’ll do those things at the appropriate time … there’s still work to be done.”
